High Blood Pressure also known as Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease where your blood vessels become tight and constricted, forcing your heart to pump harder to move blood through your body. Cardiovascular disease causes coronary heart disease (heart attacks), cerebrovascular disease (stroke), raised blood pressure (hypertension), peripheral artery disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease and heart failure.
There are several risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as tobacco use, high blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels, obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes and an unhealthy diet. Blood pressure is normally recorded in two numbers which are Systolic and Diastolic.
Systolic Pressure is the top number. It represents the pressure when your heart muscle contracts to pump blood to the body. Diastolic Pressure is the bottom number that measures the pressure between beats when your heart relaxes.
